Summer Otten
Summer Otten comes to The Wild Cheetahs every Wednesday with the wonderful Navarre Running Group!
She lived in San Diego as a child and played soccer. At 16, she moved to Ocean Springs, Mississippi and played high school soccer there and continued to play soccer in college at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. She graduated as an X-ray Technologist in 2008. Later, she trained to MRI's. Now she does both at Touchstone Imaging.
Summer started paddleboarding in 2014 and met her future husband, Pete, there. He introduced her to the Icy Pints Association---a group that ran 3/1 miles in Ocean Springs followed by refreshments and conversation. She had so much fun.....she was finally "hooked" on running.
She and Pete moved to Gulf Breeze in 2019. She joined the YMCA and found her running group. She loves this running group; it made her a runner---probably "a lifetime runner." The group inspired her to run her first half marathon in 2019 and her first full marathon in 2020. Recently, they challenged her to join Meer Mortals and Tri Chix....and, yes, she will be competing in the Santa Rosa Tri in October!!
Her favorite races so far are The Blackwater 10 Miler and The Big Beach Marathon in Gulf Shores. Her entire family (Pete; 18 year old stepson, Lance; 12 year old Charlotte, and 7 year old Dempsey) were at the marathon for support.
Summer feels that because of running she can look forward to new challenges, new friendships, and good health in the future.
